lyrics

[Chorus]

Let's choose to end, harmful gambling
Killing my communities
Losing opportunities
It's choice not chance…

Let's choose to end, harmful gambling
Loss my money and I lost my soul
Nothing to offer like times of old

[Verse 1]

I once knew a brother
His name was Billy Ray Nixon
Age 22 and had a gambling addiction
Making bets on the dogs and the horses
Up at university failing all his courses
Looking back on his life he had nothing to lose
He was puffing on drugs and he was sculling on booze
He was a rapper, putting personifications on the mic
And all of his poetry could pierce your heart like a spike
And Billy fell victim to the pokies businesses
And to this economic crime we are witnesses
Because none of us are safe from the love for money
Speaking of money, in a rich mans world it must be funny
My poor brother Billy, he never had a family
His mother fights cancer on the daily chemotherapy
In 1993 his father passed away
Poor Billy, another Tom Hank's castaway

[Chorus]

Let's choose to end, harmful gambling
Killing my communities
Losing opportunities
It's choice not chance…

Let's choose to end, harmful gambling
Loss my money and I lost my soul
Nothing to offer like times of old

[Verse 2]

When the night came, September 24
Billy found himself at the Skycity door
He took the elevator with his veins full of whisky
He played life dangerously, it was so risky
He blew away his money, dollar by dollar
And no one ever believed that Billy was a scholar
When Billy lost everything he went to the bar
Took a shot of vodka then speed off in his car
Billy went back home drunk and distraught
And he remembered a 4-meter rope he had bought
He thought, "I've disobeyed all I've been taught"
And billy put the noose around his neck and that was that!
Please listen to these lyrics for my story is true
Because I went to the funeral on Grave Avenue
I felt sorrow, the flowers on his grave
And from gambling, another brother we couldn't save
Never gamble, even if it's just for laughs
Never gamble, even if it's playing with cards
Never gamble, because it puts you in debt
Never gamble, because it's like Russian roulette

[Chorus]

Let's choose to end, harmful gambling
Killing my communities
Losing opportunities
It's choice not chance…

Let's choose to end, harmful gambling
Loss my money and I lost my soul
Nothing to offer like times of old
